The Bus Interface Unit Protector
(BIUP) is a three terminal device
specifically designed to protect the
signal inputs to the bus interface
unit devices. The surge protector
offers protection in the common mode
(line to ground) and differential
mode (line to line). The two outside
terminals (labeled DL) are for the
data lines, while the center
terminal (labeled G) is designated
for the ground.
Specially selected solid state
clamping elements have been chosen
for the electrical design of the
BIUP. These elements have been
arranged in such a manner as to
appear virtually invisible to the
bus interface unit, while offering
the maximum surge protection
available on the market today.
The BIUP also incorporates
resettable fuses for each data line
(DL). These fuses appear as high
impedance components during a
transient situation and return to a
low impedance state once the surge
has been eliminated. Not only do
these resettable fuses add further
protection to the bus interface
units, they prolong the life and
integrity of the surge protector.
